‘Sensational’ Welsh-language drama Effi o Blaenau, in which Leisa Gwenllian gives a remarkable performance in Marc Evans’ film adaptation of the one-woman play Iphigenia in Splott. Effi longs to escape Blaenau Ffestiniog, where pubs have closed, jobs have disappeared and her grandmother works nights in a chip shop. A chance encounter with injured soldier Lee offers hope of a better life, but reality proves far tougher.
