Verdi: La Traviata
In 1852, after seeing La dame aux camélias in Paris, Giuseppe Verdi found inspiration in its scandalous story of love, suffering, and dignity. From his collaboration with Francesco Maria Piave emerged La traviata (1853), an opera opposing heartfelt love to bourgeois hypocrisy through the tragic figure of Violetta Valéry.
