Old Time Sailors

Age range: 14+

Ahoy there shipmates! The Old Time Sailors are setting sail for Whitchurch Civic Centre with our old friends at Blackberry Fair as part of their Pookas Polka Party!

This year, UK audiences are invited to jump aboard the good ship The Sailorette and join the raggle taggle band of sea gypsies for an adventure on the high seas; time travel, theatre, and roaring tunes!

An all senses interactive experiential show that pulls out all the stops, you're invited to find your sea legs, sing and dance along and join our trumpet led conga around the ship!

As a member of the crew you'll chart a course for the 19th century, a period of intrepid nautical exploration, camaraderie and chaos; immersing yourself in an evening of traditional
seafaring music, songs and shanties infused with Celtic Rock, punk and ska, among other surprises.

Led by Captain Nicholas Moffatt the ensemble of 20 brave musicians, multiple voices and over 30 traditional and modern instruments, play a repertoire of over 40 songs, the band
play fully unplugged to ensure a dynamic and interactive experience.
As part of this unique show, every member of the audience will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the ‘Sunday Sailor’, the groups’ custom-made, newspaper-styled programme which includes the lyrics to all of the songs to be performed across the night ,
leaving you no excuse not to join in.
Promising a feel good, endorphin elevating, sensory - popping show unmatched in its musical
genre, expect to step inside a magnificent stage set with realistic traditional dress for a night specifically designed to provide a vividly real sensation of being aboard the Old Time Sailors’ trusty 19th century vessel.

Audience fancy dress is wholeheartedly encouraged, so pull out your finest seafaring garments and sign up for an adventure at sea as one of the Old Time Sailors shipmates and embark on what is destined to be the voyage of a lifetime.
A show that will shiver your timbers like no other this year, get ready for a night of foot-stomping and singing, dancing and debauchery like a drunken sailor!

Much Ado about Jazz with Chris Gumley and Al Gurr at Upton Magna VH last night - absolutely brilliant night. Such fantastically talented musicians!

Bev Horsley

Excellent venue, interesting choice of films, good choice of refreshments and value for money. Very happy, friendly event. We look forward to coming to Colwall.

Audience feedback - Colwall

I am so pleased I was able to see the film, as is was intended on the big screen. Much better than watching it at home on the television.

Audience feedback - Aston on Clun

Really like the warm intimate atmosphere of these local productions, thank you!

Audience feedback - Aston on Clun

A lovely venue: warm, friendly organisers, quality refreshments, easy booking system.

Audience feedback - Aston on Clun

Excellent service only way some people can see recent films.

Audience feedback - Lingen Village Hall

Most films we've seen are enjoyable, well-chosen for the audience and very entertaining at times. Very well run by the group, especially the refreshments at intermission.

Audience feedback - Lingen

An exciting community resource in this isolated village. 'A taste of culture'.

Audience feedback - Lingen Village Hall

This venue at Tasley is extremely well organised, films are well varied for a mixed audience.

Audience feedback - Tasley

The organisers were very welcoming and offered drinks and cake as everyone arrived. The film (Ali & Ava) was different and gave an insight to other peoples lives. This is why I go to Flicks in the Sticks : to see other films rather than Box Office blockbusters and get a glimpse into other cultures around the world.
