Cinema Paradiso (15)

Director Giuseppe Tornatore . 1988 Italian Drama with English Sub-titles

1988 classic about childhood, the movies and Sicily. Alfredo (Philippe Noiret) is the projectionist at the Paradiso cinema, where young Salvatore, or Toto (Salvatore Cascio), is always hanging round, infatuated with American movies.During the day, the village priest comes in to censor every film, and every kiss is removed.Years later he returns for Alfredo's funeral. The scene where the grown-up Salvatore sees all the forbidden kisses spliced together from the cutting room floor, in a secret anthology of rapture, is sublime. (Peter Bradshaw, Guardian)

Starring Philippe Noiret, Salvatore Cascio, Enzo Cannavale, Antonella Attili

Flicks Advisor (comments from our film promoters)

An amazing film. One could watch it over and over again and find new meanings. Full of laughter and tears, very uplifting. Wonderful music. Applause at the end (in spite of sitting for nearly three hours in a not very warm hall!) A truly outstanding classic film - a masterpiece.

Beautifully crafted and paced, emotionally compelling film. One of the best foreign language films ever made. Make sure you see the director's cut and don't be put off by the length.

There's no better child performance on film! - much loved by our audience.
