The Post (12a)

Director Steven Spielberg. Biography/Drama/History

THE POST is a thrilling drama about the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post's Katharine Graham, the first female publisher of a major American newspaper and editor Ben Bradlee, as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. Presidents. The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers - and their very freedom - to help bring long-buried truths to light.

Starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks

Flicks Advisor (comments from our film promoters)

Good story which is so relevant now. Very slow, ponderous first half setting the scene. Better pace in the second half. Fine performance from Tom Hanks.

Excellent, even if one had seen it before. Spielberg certainly achieved his supposed objective of highlighting the dangers of secrecy and lies, in the light of the current political situation in the USA.

Slow getting off at the start - on a personal level I would have included the Vietnam sequence a bit further in perhaps - but the second half was gripping and of course Hanks/Streep couldn't be faulted!
