Director Ken Loach. Drama

A 59 year old carpenter recovering from a heart attack, befriends a single mum and her two kids as they navigate their way through the kafkaesque impersonal benefits system. With equal amounts of humour, warmth and despair. Heartfelt and emotional until the end.

Well received by all. Made one think!

Hard-hitting mix of humour, disbelief and sadness managed to draw a respectable size audience. The social realism made uneasy viewing for some. Excellent production and clear why an award winner.

Fabulous film. Upsetting yes, but with much warmth and humour too. Stunned silence at the end but everyone I spoke to said what a great film.
