World Films

FLICKS IN THE STICKS: WORLD is a scheme giving rural audiences access to a wide range of recent films with a bit of extra kick – award-winning world cinema, British and US independent feature films and documentaries that only get limited UK release.  These are the films you always want to see, and never get to:  entertaining and adventurous, stimulating and rewarding.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Indian independence, this summer Flicks in the Sticks: WORLD brings you a short season of films from a country with one of the biggest and most diverse cinema industries on earth. From the fairy-tale song-and-dance spectacle of Bollywood blockbusters (Devdas) to the films of internationally renowned directors such as Mira Nair (Salaam Bombay!) and Deepa Mehta (Water) and the recent heart-rending, BAFTA-winning hit Lion we offer a colourful, fascinating glimpse into a different world.

Playing at selected Flicks in the Sticks venues in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Cheshire, many of the screenings will be accompanied by free Indian snacks, meals and activities.

We are grateful to the BFI for their support.
