I attended the Parlour Tricks show as a part of the Arts Alive festival this weekend - undoubtedly Mr Morgan and Mr West are very talented performers. Unfortunately that is where my praise ends; I was looking forward to a lovely evening out with friends but alas that was not to be. Before the show started I was approached by Mr West to take part in a segment of the show, but I am a shy person and just the thought of standing on a stage sends me into a state of panic. I made it very clear that I wasn't prepared to take part, but Mr West is obviously not used to hearing the word no. Instead of moving on with good grace to another member of the audience (there were 90 people at the show) he instead thought it acceptable to launch a verbal attack, so much so my husband felt he had to step in to make him stop. I was shocked, angry and utterly humiliated. I paid to attend the show, not to take part. I can only assume that Mr West feels that playing a small venue is beneath him, and that this gives him the right to behave with such arrogance. This is not an attractive attribute in anyone. I am a business woman and if I thought a member of the public left one of my shops feeling how he made me feel that night I would be mortified and thoroughly ashamed. It is unusual for me to put pen to paper when I feel I have been aggrieved, but in this case I feel it is totally justified. Bullying behaviour must never be tolerated.Shame on you, Mr West!
I loved last nights show, in fact I have loved every arts alive show I've been too!! I've never seen a bad performance. We are so lucky to have such inspiring professional live performances in local venues. Thank you. Looking forward to the next one.
What a great nigh at SpArC - best live music I have heard in a long time - Bring back Bon Dearras
thoroughly enjoyed the evening on Friday with the Canadian Trio.Great to see and hear live Music and with such enthusiasm
I just wanted to say how brilliant I thought Bon Debarras were and to congratulate you on bringing such an inspiring and original trio, where ever did you find them? I was shopping in Bishops Castle the day after Bon Debarras at SparC and the people who had been at the show were still smiling and humming or whistling the next day!
Bon Debarras performed in Bishops Castle last night and they were outstanding. The most original combination of music, song and dance I have heard in years. Please bring them back.
Last night we went to Bodenham to see My Big Fat Cowpat Wedding and we had a 'right good laugh'.Sitting with dairy farmers, who had married their daughter off last year, we laughed and cried as the TB and failing milk price along with the everpresent worry of managing ' to keep the family farm afloat' made it all too real. However we laughed far more than cried and could only wonder at the cast who were amazing flitting from character character with ease. Lovely chatting to them in role before and also when they were clearing away as themselves. A lovely evening.
A wonderful ballet performance by over 50 children aged 4 to 12 at the SpArC Theatre in Bishops Castle. This was the culmination of a week of workshops at SpArC and in Craven Arms with dancers from Birmingham Royal Ballet. The choreography, live music and children's skill and enthusiasm was a delight and the ballet company, organisers and funders are all to be congratulated. Please come again.
Wonderful afternoon at Lyde Court, I Peasbottom, I Calliban, was a great performance. The audience all helped to make such a great afternoon. The venue was fabulous. The horse poking his head over the fence to join in just made for more fun. Refreshments first class and all ages had a good time
Awesome night with Rose's Pawn Shop and a great crowd of South Shropshire energy - thank you Arts Alive for bringing a huge dose of America to our 1st of March.
6 October 2012 - Can You Dig It - excellent show. Music very good and funny. Audience thoroughly enjoyed whole performance.
Matt Harvey was just lovely, v.v. funny, we bought a book because we had such a giggle. Lady in front of us was laughing v. loud
Excellent Drumming and singing from the African drumming group at Kimbolton Village hall. It was a really fun evening Great to dance too to such an accomplished group. Thanks to all . Sue Allen
Thoroughly enjoyed the Bowjangles Bowlympics at Meole Brace Peace Memorial Hall last night. If your village hall has not yet booked this brilliant foursome you should ask the reason why not. Thank you to all those involved in organising our first Arts Alive production. I will definitely be supporting the next one :-D
Fantastic performance by Bowjangles at Meole Brace Peace Memorial Hall. Looking forward to seeing more Arts Alive events at this venue.
We had the pleasure of Bowjangles playing Meole Brace Peace Memorial Hall, Shrewsbury on 15th Sept. They had the audience laughing, crying (with joy!) humming, singing and dancing by the end of the show. The Bowlympics Revue was hilarious. We loved every minute of their show! Thank you Arts Alive bringing them to Shropshire.
A brilliant lunch and concert at Quatt Village Hall. Wonderful welcome, superb lunch and entertainment. Many thanksto all involved
I heard the Ensemble Sakhioba in Clun a couple of nights ago and want to say what an extraordinary experience it was. Voices quite unlike the European, and powerful so that just 2 or 3 voices filled the large church. Not understanding the words, we were just listening to the musicality of the voices, sometimes harmonious sometimes rasping. The programme became increasingly emotional towards the end. A really remarkable performance - thank you for bringing them to Shropshire and I'm glad you achieved a very full audience for them.
Really loved "Stalag Happy", as did our visitor from the US, the usual unusual evening......two very talented performers, and not put off by the dog and little girl in the front row!Sue Stone.
Hi Arts AliveWent along to Northern Harmony's workshop and concert yesterday and it was fantastic. Their close-harmony singing was breathtaking, the venue and organising of the event were superb and I really hope this happens again. Thanks to you for helping fund it - a world-class event in our back yard. Brilliant.
WELL DONE FOR DANCE EXPLOSION - FANTASTIC FOR SHROPSHIRE.
Vamos Theatre visited Trefonen last Saturday evening and an audience of 87 were thrilled with the production. The concept of actors not speaking but using masks was an unknown factor but the actors were so talented and professional and the production was excellent. There was much praise for the hard work of the actors who put the set together and then acted and then cleared up and packed their van and then set off for home at 10.30pm. The girls were lovely and we had a wonderful time. Some of the audience were still praising the production on the Sunday lunchtime in the local pub!!
Last night we went, with friends, to see The New Budapest Cafe Orchestra in Leintwardine. It was the most exciting, inspiring and uplifting evening. The orchestra were absolutely wonderful, and we all felt privileged to watch and be so close to such amazing musicians. The whole event was a delight and everybody in the audience were stamping and shouting for more. Thank you Arts Alive for bringing such class entertainment to our area. More of them please, we would certainly love to see that orchestra again.
Just to say how much I've enjoyed attending several Arts Alive events during this year. They have all been hugely entertaining and of course very accessible. The most recent event was Friday evening here in Dilwyn with the New Rope String Band. What can I say; fantastic, fun and energetic and this in no way captures the essence of their mad show. The hall was full and everyone enjoyed it. We look forward to more events here in the village.
Mamane Barka at the Burton, Kington. Absolutely brilliant. One of the best live events I've attended this year. Let's have more of this sort of thing out here in the sticks!
Teatro Che Y Moche at Ledbury on Sunday – it was wonderful, I haven’t laughed so much for along time. Great live entertainment. Thank you
My friend and I attended Wigmore Village Hall to see Charity Shop Cabaret - we laughed from start to finish. Superbly done by the people on stage and enjoyed by all who attended. Thanks for this productions.
Bowjangles at Habberley village hall last Saturday were a riot. So talented, energetic and thoroughly entertaining. At one stage they had EVERYONE in the room on their feet. Bravo to four brilliant musicians and to Arts Alive for bringing them to Shropshire!
It was great to see Sonia Sabri in Llanwarne Village Hall last night. I see her whenever I can and this night was made extra special by the efforts of the local community in getting behind the event and laying on party atmosphere. I'm please the recent cold snap did not deter the audience or the enthusiasm.
