Viceroy's House (12)

Viceroy’s House in Delhi was the home of the British rulers of India. After 300 years, that rule was coming to an end. For 6 months in 1947, Lord Mountbatten, great grandson of Queen Victoria, assumed the post of the last Viceroy, charged with handing India back to its people. The film’s story unfolds within that great House. Upstairs lived Mountbatten together with his wife and daughter; downstairs lived their 500 Hindu, Muslim and Sikh servants. As the political elite - Nehru, Jinnah and Gandhi - converged on the House to wrangle over the birth of independent India, conflict erupted. A decision was taken to divide the country and create a new Muslim homeland: Pakistan. It was a decision whose consequences reverberate to this day. ""Excellent film - broad sweep of History, mixed with a human interest. The Audience sat in silence at the end as they watched the credits roll""

Victoria and Abdul (TBC) (PG)

Abdul Karim arrives from India to participate in Queen Victoria's golden jubilee. The young clerk is surprised to find favor with the queen herself. As Victoria questions the constrictions of her long-held position, the two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance that her household and inner circle try to destroy. As their friendship deepens, the queen begins to see a changing world through new eyes, joyfully reclaiming her humanity.

Volver (15)

A brilliant synthesis of love story, melodrama, ghost story and thriller that tells of three generations of women who survive death, fire and madness by means of goodness, boundless energy, and lies. Visually sumptuous, full of strong performances, this deals with mothers, daughters, sisters and their intricate relationships in a way that is typical Almodovar.
